The Times: Zelensky and Putin prepare for peace talks under Trump's auspices - details of possible compromises.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin are awaiting the start of negotiations following Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States. According to The Times, possible compromises regarding security guarantees for Ukraine are being considered, such as deploying more Ukrainian troops in NATO countries and the deployment of weapons in Ukraine.
On Wednesday, in an interview with Fox News, Zelensky stated that Ukraine understands its limitations in a military solution regarding Putin and cannot return him to the boundaries of 1991. Russia, for its part, is ready to withdraw troops from certain territories, while Kyiv is considering the possibility of creating buffer zones to protect the population.
According to a recent Gallup poll, 52% of Ukrainians support the start of peace negotiations, while 38% advocate for continuing the war. Currently, no official negotiations are being held, but preliminary consultations through intermediaries may be possible. Turkey, India, and Qatar are named as potential venues for such negotiations.
