Finding the family in Mexico
According to The Sun: In Mexico, the murdered TikTok star Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay, her husband Roberto Carlos Gila Lisea, and their two children were found. The bodies of 32-year-old Esmeralda, 36-year-old Roberto, 13-year-old son Gael Santiago, and 7-year-old daughter Regina were discovered in an abandoned pickup truck.
Jam PressThe Mexican authorities confirmed their identities only days after the car was found in Guadalajara. All the bodies were handed over to relatives three days after they were discovered.
Possible causes of the tragedy
The family, who recently moved to Guadalajara, is believed to be victims due to the husband’s activities related to car trading and agriculture in their home state of Michoacán. It is suspected that his business may have attracted the attention of dangerous Mexican cartels.
Investigators determined that Esmeralda's online activity is not the cause of the crime. They found that the last movements of the pickup led to a workshop where traces of blood and ballistic evidence were discovered.
"The crime scene has been secured, and investigators found several pieces of evidence indicating that the family was killed right there.
"Although the autopsy results are not ready yet, the ballistic and bloody evidence practically confirms that they were killed at that location," emphasized prosecutor Alfonso Gutierrez Santillan.
Investigation ongoing
As part of the investigation, two workshop employees were arrested but later released due to lack of evidence. One of the arrested was attacked by an armed group, and two of his relatives went missing without a trace.
Esmeralda gained popularity on social media by showcasing her luxurious lifestyle and posting content related to drug culture, earning thousands of followers. Her TikTok account has 18,000 subscribers and over half a million likes.
