TikTok restores its operations in the USA after Trump's promise.
The video hosting service TikTok is starting its operations in the USA again after President Donald Trump's announcement of a temporary delay in the ban. This is reported by CNN.
Trump stated that he will delay the process of banning TikTok but wants the platform to be owned by American investors. He published this statement on social media.
Trump plans to issue an order to delay the TikTok ban after his inauguration on January 20. He claims this is being done to 'negotiate a deal regarding national security.'
'This is how we keep TikTok, we keep it in safe hands and allow it to speak. Without the approval of the USA, there is no TikTok,' Trump said.
Today it is known that TikTok was unavailable in the USA for 12 hours but then became available again for over 170 million Americans.
The TikTok team stated that this decision is 'supporting the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship.' They also plan to work with President Trump on a long-term solution that will allow TikTok to remain in the USA.
The TikTok ban was implemented after the Supreme Court's support on January 17. The law prohibiting American companies from servicing social networks from China was signed by President Joe Biden in April. This law stipulates that such a network can exist in the USA if it is transferred to American or officially allied ownership.
The law required ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, to sell the platform to an American owner within nine months, otherwise TikTok would be banned in the USA. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, this program poses a national security threat due to the spread of propaganda and the use of special software to attract children to the platform.
In December, President Trump expressed his desire to allow TikTok to continue operating in the USA for some time. He expressed this during a meeting with TikTok's CEO. This was one of the strongest signals against the possible disappearance of TikTok from the US market. TikTok users are actively switching to an alternative Chinese platform - RedNote, which combines the functionalities of TikTok and Instagram.
