Toyota introduces new twin-turbo V8: what is known about the engine.
According to Korrespondent.net: Toyota officially confirmed the development of a new twin-turbo V8 engine, which will be presented in the GR supercar this December. The president of the company's powertrain division, Takashi Uehara, announced this at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
New Power of the V8 Engine
According to him, the new eight-cylinder engine is built on the modular architecture of Toyota's gasoline engines, which also includes new units with volumes of 1.5 and 2.0 liters. The technologies used in the new engine are borrowed from the GR Yaris M Concept, where the 2.0-liter G20E engine produces over 400 hp. Thanks to four additional cylinders and a twin-turbo, the new V8 will achieve significant power.
Hybrid System and Versions for Toyota and Lexus
Uehara also confirmed that the engine will be used as part of a hybrid system, but it will not be a plug-in hybrid. He noted that Lexus plans to get its version of this V8, specifically in the production version of the Sport Concept, which is also a hybrid.
'Perhaps for Lexus we will make the V8 with a softer character, while for Toyota - a more powerful, heavier version,' Uehara noted.
It is worth recalling that earlier information appeared that Toyota revived the classic Land Cruiser with a new turbo engine.
