Toyota created a Prius on ethanol: CO2 emissions reduced by 90%

Toyota has released a new prototype Prius with an engine that runs on ethanol in Brazil. This car can reduce CO2 emissions by 90% when using ethanol. This is the first plug-in hybrid transmission with such capability from Toyota for the Brazilian market, complemented by a gasoline engine.

Although specific technical details have not yet been disclosed, it is expected that modifications for working with ethanol will be minimal. Toyota also plans to invest a significant amount of money in the development of production and new mobility solutions in Brazil, releasing two new hybrids on ethanol.

The appearance of the prototype is almost indistinguishable from the standard Prius, except for a few special stickers.

Whether this hybrid Prius will go into mass production is currently unknown. However, the development of such technologies indicates the growing interest of automakers in ecological and renewable energy sources in the transport sector.
