Toyota Tacoma Dominates Pickup Sales but Faces Major Defects: Recalls Announced.
Toyota Tacoma: A Market Leader in Pickup Trucks
According to Novyny.live: Since its debut in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has consistently ranked as one of America’s top-selling pickup trucks. Despite achieving a record-breaking 274,638 units sold, the vehicle has been plagued by numerous design and mechanical flaws, leading to widespread recalls that have raised concerns among owners.
Key Issues Plaguing the Toyota Tacoma
A major setback came in 2016 when Toyota entered into a $3.4 billion settlement to cover repairs for models produced between 2005 and 2010. Official recalls have affected 768,379 units from the 2001–2004 model years, along with 227,732 third-generation pickups from 2016, which were recalled due to transmission component defects.
Owners have reported several recurring problems, including:
- Automatic transmission failures in the fourth-generation Tacoma, appearing within the first 1,600 km of driving.
- Critical brake issues in third-generation models built between 2018 and 2019.
- Frame corrosion, suspension breakage, differential leaks, and automatic transmission breakdowns, all of which compromise driver and passenger safety.
With growing competition in the pickup segment, Toyota must address these defects to maintain consumer trust. The company needs to focus on improving vehicle quality and safety to sustain its market leadership. Taking decisive action could help Toyota not only protect its reputation but also reinforce its position in the highly competitive pickup truck market.
