According to Espreso.tv: The exhibition 'Olenivka' will open on July 28, 2023, in Kyiv, dedicated to the tragic events that took place on July 28, 2022, and the consequences of the terrorist attack that resulted in the deaths of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The official opening of the exhibition will be at 14:00 in the 'Mlyn' space at Spaska St., 36/31. The exhibition will last until August 3, 2023.

On the night of July 29, 2022, an explosion occurred in a colony in Olenivka, resulting in the deaths of about 50 people, while more than 130 individuals were injured, of which about 70 had serious injuries. As of today, more than 90 prisoners of war are still in Russian captivity. In 2023, the United Nations disbanded its fact-finding mission regarding the explosion in Olenivka, and an independent international investigation of the circumstances of the tragedy has not yet been conducted.

The Purpose of the Exhibition

The exhibition will present a step-by-step history, starting from the history of the city of Olenivka itself to the terrorist attack. As Sviatoslav Popovych noted,

“This exhibition tells a step-by-step story”

. Oleksandra Mazur, who lost her boyfriend – a serviceman of the 'Azov' regiment, Yaroslav 'First' Otrok, in Olenivka, shared her experiences, stating:

“Yes, and then the Russians interfered with providing medical assistance”

. She also spoke about the lengthy DNA testing that confirmed the death of her boyfriend: 'And we waited, this DNA took a very long time, up until the summer of 2023. But unfortunately, it confirmed that it was him.'

Oleksandra Mazur expressed hope that 'there should be an International Court, just as there was after World War II regarding Nazi war crimes'. The exhibition 'Olenivka' is organized with the support of the 'Creative Sich' Charitable Foundation and the 'Community of Olenivka' public organization. Its purpose is to draw attention to the tragic events and their consequences that have affected many Ukrainian families.

The exhibition 'Olenivka' is an important event that emphasizes not only the tragic events but also society's desire for justice and the restoration of memory about the fallen. Given that more than 90 prisoners of war still remain in Russian captivity, this event could serve as a platform for discussing further actions by the international community. It is important that such initiatives contribute not only to honoring the memory of the fallen but also to activating international efforts for investigation and punishment of those guilty of crimes against humanity.
