The Patriot system includes several missile variants—specifically the PAC-2, PAC-3 CRI, and PAC-3 MSE—each with distinct specifications and operational histories.

Patriot Missile Variants

• PAC-2

  The PAC-2 is the oldest model still in active use. Development began in the 1980s, with initial tests conducted in 1987. It saw its first combat deployment during the 1991 Gulf War. Weighing 912 kg, the PAC-2 can intercept ballistic targets at altitudes up to 24 km. Annual production of this variant is estimated at 230–260 units.

• PAC-3 CRI

  The PAC-3 series entered U.S. Army service in the 1990s. The PAC-3 CRI variant has a range of up to 45 km and weighs 218 kg. Its first combat use occurred in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq. Despite its upgraded features, this model is now considered outdated.

• PAC-3 MSE

  The most advanced and widely deployed variant is the PAC-3 MSE, developed in the 2000s and fielded by the U.S. Army in 2015. It offers a range of up to 60 km and a maximum engagement altitude of 20 km. Annual production of the PAC-3 MSE stands at 620 missiles. In early 2026, Lockheed Martin secured a contract to ramp up production to 2,000 missiles per year, reflecting sustained demand for this model.
