Trump and Zelensky agreed on security guarantees and weapons worth $90 billion.
US President Donald Trump is preparing for a meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Russian dictator. He announced this on his social media platform Truth Social. Trump began taking these measures following a phone call with Putin, which he made during negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders at the White House. A comparative analysis of Trump's meetings with Putin in Alaska and with President Zelensky in Washington took place, as reported by FREEДОМ.
Key points of the negotiations
Zelensky described the meeting with Trump as 'the best negotiations in history.' The leaders exchanged gifts, with the Ukrainian President presenting the head of the White House with a golf club from the Ukrainian military. Concrete results were also achieved in the negotiations, including agreements on security guarantees for Ukraine and further steps for military support. The primary focus is on the procurement of American arms and joint production of drones.
'We need additional funding. I aim to find all this money... This will be part of security guarantees for a long time. The second point is a package of weapons, American weapons, that we do not have. This mainly includes planes, air defense systems, and others. There is a package with our proposals for $90 billion. This is the second part of security guarantees for us. The third part is the production of our drones. And we have agreements with the President of the United States here that when we open exports, they will buy Ukrainian drones,' shares the details Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Difference between Trump's negotiations with Putin
Analysts note the discrepancy between the negotiations of the Presidents of the US and Ukraine and Trump’s meeting with Putin. The main difference lies in the protocol and openness: conversations with the Russian dictator took place behind closed doors in Alaska, while Zelensky was received in the Oval Office of the White House.
'We have a precedent of the meeting between Trump and Putin. How did it end? An independent assessment indicates that it went 10 out of 10, without Trump explaining what these 10 out of 10 consist of, what real agreements were made, what benefits he could gain, even not regarding Ukraine – this is a complex case. And in terms of bilateral relations with the Russian Federation and the approving approach to the policy, which he currently shades? That is, we saw nothing of this,' emphasized Doctor of Political Science Igor Petrenko.
Participation of European leaders and the role of the press
Compared to Putin, Zelensky is willing to communicate with journalists and clearly convey the real state of affairs. During the meeting, he showed Trump a current map of troop positions on the front to demonstrate the real situation in Ukraine. The negotiations between the Presidents of the US and Ukraine with the participation of European leaders aim to end the war initiated by Putin and provide reliable security guarantees for Ukraine against Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held important talks with his American counterpart Donald Trump, during which concrete agreements on security and military support were reached. A significant difference between these negotiations and Trump's meeting with Putin indicates the transparency and openness of the dialogue between Zelensky and Trump compared to the secret negotiations with Putin. The efforts of Europe and the US are aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and ensuring the country's security against Russian aggression.
