Trump assessed whether US military guarantees are needed for peace in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump stated that after a peace agreement is reached, the military presence of the US will not be necessary to ensure Ukraine's security. He made this statement during a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington.
'When we reach an agreement, it will be upheld,' Trump emphasized in response to journalists' questions. 'We must ensure that this agreement is lasting,' he added.
Trump also expressed confidence in the UK’s ability to defend itself in case of a Russian attack on British troops in Ukraine. He noted the courage and soldierly skill of the Brits, asserting that they can ensure their own security.
The US President also stated that the possibility of deploying a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine is tied to reaching an agreement on mineral extraction. 'First, we need to reach an agreement. Right now we are truly negotiating. We are very close to an agreement,' he summarized.
Thus, Trump stated that the US military presence in Ukraine could become unnecessary after a peace agreement is reached.
