The Trump administration is actively working to end the war in Ukraine, although it acknowledges that Vladimir Putin will continue his demands. The U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, emphasized at a discussion panel in Davos that issues unrelated to Moscow need to be avoided during negotiations with Russia, focusing on simple expectations, such as ending the war.

'Trump is determined to end the war in Ukraine, and I am confident that he and his national security advisor understand that Ukraine is striving for peace, while Russia is hindering its achievement,' Volker stated.

Volker added that Trump understands the importance of supporting Ukraine in the process of ending the war. He also highlighted 2025 as a possible deadline for a ceasefire and wished for a sustainable peace in Ukraine and reliable security guarantees for the country.

Sustainable peace, along with progress towards integration with the EU and economic growth, according to Volker, will attract Western investors to Ukraine. He also noted that American companies are already investing in Ukrainian defense manufacturing companies.

The U.S. Special Representative believes that the Trump administration should formulate simple expectations regarding Russia, demanding an end to hostilities and the initiation of negotiations on that basis. Volker advises to refrain from negotiating with the RF on issues that do not concern it, such as Ukraine's NATO membership.

According to Volker: 'Moscow has no right to decide Ukraine's NATO membership, so there is no sense in talking to Russia about it. It is important to convince Putin that the U.S. is ready to do everything to ensure that he does not win and does not achieve the desired victory,' Volker emphasized.
