Presidents of Ukraine and Russia Set to Meet

According to Espreso.tv: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed support for a potential face-to-face meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump highlighted the importance of dialogue in resolving the ongoing conflict. This endorsement comes as Zelensky, on June 4, released an open letter to Putin urging peace and proposing direct talks to end the war.

In his letter, Zelensky pointed out that Russian military losses on the Ukrainian front in May exceeded 30,000 killed and severely wounded. He called for an end to the hostilities, stating:

“Do not be afraid to step away from the war—that is the main thing required of you right now.”
He also expressed willingness to implement a ceasefire during negotiations, emphasizing that 'the choice is now yours. Enough of the war. Ukraine proposes to end this conflict.'

Potential Venues for the Summit

Zelensky suggested holding the meeting in a neutral country, specifically mentioning Switzerland or Turkey. These nations, along with countries from the Arab world, could serve as possible platforms for discussing pathways to peace. A summit between the two leaders could mark a critical step toward resolving the protracted conflict.

A direct meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia could be a pivotal moment for increasing the chances of a peaceful resolution to a conflict that has persisted for years. Engaging in dialogue may help reduce tensions and open the door to further negotiations essential for stabilizing the region. Notably, both sides have signaled a readiness to talk, which could form the foundation for restoring peace.
