Trump declared 'closeness' to signing an agreement with Ukraine on minerals and hopes for a quick end to the war.
US President Donald Trump stated that the country is 'quite close' to reaching an agreement with Ukraine regarding access to its natural resources. Speaking at the CPAC conference, he mentioned that the US is asking Ukraine to supply minerals and oil. Trump also expressed a desire to return the billions of dollars in military aid that the US provided to Ukraine.
'We are asking for minerals, oil, everything we can get,' emphasized Trump, adding that he wants to return the billions of dollars in military aid given to Ukraine.
According to the president, the US spent 350 billion dollars to support Ukraine due to the 'incompetent administration and president.' He noted that American aid was unconditional, unlike European aid, which was provided in the form of loans.
'Europe gave 100 billion. The US gave 350 billion. But here’s what’s worse. Europe gave in the form of loans. They will get their money back. We gave it just like that,' noted Trump.
The president also reported on negotiations with Russian president Putin and Ukrainian president Zelensky, expressing hope for a quick end to the war. He stated that he hopes to be a peacemaker rather than a conqueror.
