Trump proposed a 'deal' to Putin to end the war in Ukraine: text of the statement.
Newly elected US President Donald Trump said that he is ready to impose the strongest sanctions and tariffs on all goods that Russia exports to the US if Russia does not agree to a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Ukraine. Trump made this statement on January 22 on his social media page Truth Social.
In his statement, he noted that he wants to help Russia, which, according to him, is in an economic crisis, and called for an immediate cessation of the war, which he considers senseless. In case of a negative response from Russia, Trump proposed to impose high tariffs, duties, and sanctions on all goods that Russia sells not only to the US but also to other participant countries.
President Trump emphasized that the war would not have started if he were in office. He also stressed that he has always had good relations with President Putin and does not intend to harm Russia. At the same Time, he reminded that Russia was an ally of the US during World War II and suffered significant losses.
