New US proposal for Russia
After a meeting with the special representative of the US president, Steven Witkoff, Putin accepted a 'beneficial proposal' regarding the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. The American side's conditions include the conclusion of a ceasefire, recognition of Russian territorial gains, lifting of sanctions, and the possibility of returning to the import of Russian gas and oil in the long term.
- Ukraine and Russia will conclude not peace, but a ceasefire;
- actual recognition of Russian territorial gains (by deferring this issue for 49 or 99 years);
- lifting of most Western sanctions imposed on Russia;
- returning to the import of Russian gas and oil in the long term.
The agreement provides for the absence of guarantees of NATO expansion and the suspension of military support for Ukraine. According to reports, Russia also agreed to these terms.
Recently, Putin's position on peace negotiations with Ukraine changed due to the threat of potential sanctions from the USA. In addition, the Kremlin announced a forthcoming personal meeting between Putin and Trump.
After the meeting of the US president's special representative with Putin, Russia agreed to the terms of the ceasefire with Ukraine, recognition of territorial gains, lifting of sanctions, and the possibility of returning to the import of gas and oil. This may indicate a potential resolution of the conflict and a decrease in tension in the region.Read also
