Ukraine’s Third Assault Brigade Dismisses Russian Claim of Capturing Luhansk Region: Defenders Hold the Line.
Luhansk Region: The Current Battlefield Reality
According to UATV: On April 2, 2023, Russia’s Defense Ministry declared it had fully seized the Luhansk region. But Ukraine’s Third Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces has pushed back against that narrative, confirming that Ukrainian troops continue to hold the last defensive lines there. According to the brigade, fighting is ongoing near the settlements of Nadezhda, Novoehorivka, and Hrekivka.
Over the past six months, the enemy has launched 144 assault attempts in those areas, deploying 19 pieces of motorized equipment and more than 360 Russian soldiers. Despite Moscow’s repeated efforts to overrun the region, Ukrainian forces have held their ground.
“The reality is that Ukrainian forces—our defenders—remain present on the territory of the region,” brigade representatives emphasized.
Ukraine’s Active Countermeasures
In addition, during March 2023, drone units from Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces eliminated over 10,000 Russian military personnel. This highlights Ukraine’s proactive defense strategy, even as the enemy wages an information war filled with lies and disinformation.
“Despite all the Russians’ attempts to seize the region through military means and through virtual deception with lies and fakes—the Third Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stands firm,” the military added.
This information underscores the tense situation on the front lines in Luhansk, where Ukrainian troops continue to resist Russian offensives. A key point is that despite numerous attempts to capture the territory, Ukrainian forces remain in position, demonstrating resilience and determination in the fight for sovereignty. These developments unfold against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict where information warfare and disinformation are integral parts of both sides’ strategies.
