The fare for trolleybus rides will increase to 12 hryvnias: who and how much will pay.
According to inkorr.com: In 2025, fare rates for trolleybus rides in Ukraine will increase. This is due to inflation, rising electricity costs, and changes in city transportation policies. Prices will range from 8 to 12 hryvnias for a single trip in different regions. For instance, in Kharkiv, the fare may reach 11 hryvnias due to local taxes. This was reported by the publication
“Informer”.
Key factors influencing the ticket price for trolleybuses
The fare is determined by several factors:
Economic costs: rising inflation increases the fare by 1-2 hryvnias each year due to the rising prices of electricity, fuel for additional systems, and employee salaries.
Subsidies: in many cities, the government partially covers transportation costs, allowing fares to remain lower than those of minibuses.
Local specifics: in cities with developed transport infrastructure, such as Kharkiv or Lviv, prices may be higher due to additional taxes or infrastructure expenses.
Where is the cheapest trolleybus ticket in Ukraine
In 2025, passengers will be able to choose from several payment options:
Single ticket: will cost between 8 and 12 hryvnias, depending on the city. In Kyiv, for example, it will cost 12 hryvnias, and payment can be made both in cash and through a mobile app.
Monthly pass: ranges from 300 to 500 hryvnias. In Lviv, for instance, for 400 hryvnias, passengers can use the trolleybuses without limitations, and some passes also include metro or trams.
Electronic cards: systems such as “Kyiv Digital,” “LeoCart” in Lviv, or “Dnipro” in Dnipro cover over 70% of payments. They allow online balance top-ups and contactless payments.
Discounts: students and pensioners are entitled to free transport or discounts of up to 50%, highlighting the social role of public transport.
How to save on public transport fares
To save on fares, passengers are advised to:
Use passes for regular trips – it's more cost-effective.
Download the city's mobile app for convenient balance monitoring and to avoid fines.
Keep an eye out for promotions, especially during holidays, when discounts may be offered.
In Dnipro, tourists can take advantage of advantageous day tickets for 30 hryvnias, which allow unlimited trips.
Please note that starting from January 1, 2026, a decree from the Ministry of Community Development will come into effect regarding
the unified form of ticketsfor public transport. Electronic tickets can be obtained via QR code, email, or an app, and a baggage receipt will be provided for suburban routes. These changes aim to simplify the payment process and make the transport system more user-friendly.
As of 2025, the increase in trolleybus fares will reflect the general economic trends in Ukraine. We anticipate that these changes may encourage passengers to use alternative modes of transport more frequently and look for ways to reduce expenses. It is important to stay informed about current fares and saving opportunities to optimize your transport costs.
