Tusk: Ukraine has stronger cards than Russia, but mutual respect is needed.
According to ТСН: Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that Ukraine has "stronger cards" than Russia. While he expressed satisfaction with the EU agreement on the loan, he noted that "it could have been better".
These words from Tusk came after his meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Ukraine is fighting on the front line, and we support Ukraine with all our might. Poland has made tremendous efforts here, as have the Poles. We are doing this in the shared interests of an independent Ukraine and an independent Poland. There is no contradiction here," Tusk emphasized.
He also noted that Ukrainians and Poles must "show maximum understanding and patience toward each other." Tusk believes that the future of the two countries "should be based on mutual respect and friendship".
The Prime Minister also pointed out that in Poland, "sometimes it feels that not all Ukrainians appreciate our efforts," but added that "sometimes Ukrainians feel that the mood here has become a bit less pro-Ukrainian".
"We must have a lot of patience and understanding toward each other," the Polish Prime Minister added.
Tusk stressed that "we must think wisely about our common interests, everyone has their job, but no one can question this great common interest of two proud nations." This common interest is "an independent Poland, an independent Ukraine, and a secure Europe."
Furthermore, Tusk expressed his respect for Zelensky, emphasizing: "your struggle is our common struggle".
"You are a hero not only in Ukraine but also here in Poland, [we] treat you as a hero," the Prime Minister said.
When Zelensky tried to diminish the significance of these words, Tusk responded:
"I know what I am saying".
Additionally, the Polish Prime Minister reiterated his opinion that Ukraine's struggle against the Russian Federation protects Poland's independence, as otherwise, it could be threatened if the Kremlin wins the war.
Moreover, a meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Poland, Karol Nawrocki, recently took place in Warsaw. This was the first meeting of the leaders after Nawrocki came to power.
According to the Polish President, Zelensky's visit to Poland emphasizes the unity of views on security and defense between Warsaw, Kyiv, and other partners in the region.
These statements underline the importance of cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the face of modern challenges. The common interests of the two countries are the foundation for further development of relations that can strengthen security throughout the region. Tusk's words and high-level meetings demonstrate the desire for close cooperation in the struggle for stability and independence.
