Briton sentenced to 25 years for murdering partner in Italy: details of the brutal crime.
Court passes sentence on man who murdered his partner
According to The Sun: A British man, Michael Whitbread, who brutally killed his partner, 66-year-old Michelle Faiers, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The crime occurred in their home in Italy.
During the trial, Whitbread attempted to shift the blame onto the victimFacebookWhitbread, aged 75, stabbed the woman nine times, including in the back, in October 2023. Faiers' body was discovered by her friend several days after the crime in the couple's home in Verra, central Abruzzo.
After the murder, Whitbread fled the scene, traveling over 2000 km through Italy, Switzerland, and France before reaching his daughter's home in the UK. He was arrested in Shepshed on suspicion of murder and was in custody during the trial in Italy.

Sentence and prosecution's explanation
At the sentencing hearing, Whitbread apologized to Faiers' three daughters, but accused her of provoking his actions, stating:
“Michelle, I will miss you for the rest of my life, I love you and I am sorry. I regret your death and the pain I caused your family. I always loved you, but you accused me of cheating with another Englishwoman, which was not true, how would you have acted?”
The prosecution requested a life sentence, but the court sentenced Whitbread to 25 years in prison and ordered him to pay 100,000 euros in compensation to the victim's daughters. Prosecutor Mirvana Di Serio stated:
“He killed her, inflicting nine stab wounds — that was his intention.”
After the verdict, Faiers' family lawyer expressed regret that the sentence was lenient, though accepted with respect. The family cannot understand why the punishment for such brutality is so limited.
The former diving instructor claimed he killed Faiers after she accused him of infidelity.
This case draws attention to the issue of domestic violence and the importance of responding to such crimes. While the sentence may be seen as a step towards justice for the Faiers family, it emphasizes the need for more decisive actions to combat violence in society. Many reports remind that seconds can change lives forever. Read also
