The deadly contaminated avocado dip was served at the food festival before people were diagnosed with botulism.Valeria Sollai, a 62-year-old school cook, left memories of having eaten guacamole before being quickly rushed to the hospital. But she died on Monday after spending weeks on life support. Roberta Pitzalis, 38, also consumed the same batch of guacamole at the festival in Sardinia before dying on August 8.
An autopsy confirmed that Roberta died from a combination of botulism poison and pneumonia.A boy and a girl, aged 11 and 14 respectively, remain hospitalized and reportedly both are recovering after tasting from the same batch of guacamole. An autopsy for Valeria is yet to take place. She showed signs of recovery before a recurring situation occurred and she tragically passed away.
The tragedy occurred after consuming toxic guacamole
According to The Sun: “She was with her sisters; they all ate the same sandwich, but only she got sick.” She added: “They were celebrating the elder sister's discharge from the hospital. The party turned into a tragedy.” Describing Valeria, Mayor of Monserrato, Tommaso Locci, said: “She gave so much for our children. The news saddens us doubly. We will be present at the funeral as a community, just as we were for Roberta Pitzalis, another victim. This is a loss that touches us all.”
Her cousin Gianni Milia said: “It’s absurd when someone goes to a party, goes to a party, eats a sandwich, and ends up in the hospital.”The text has a light style that is easy to read but conveys the dramatic tragedy that occurred due to the consumption of poisonous guacamole at the food festival. It underscores the importance of food safety and quality control at such events.
