Orest Slipak has died in Belgium - the brother of the Hero of Ukraine Vasyl Slipak, who was killed in 2016 in Luhansk region defending Ukraine. Orest Slipak passed away at the age of 56. This was reported by the historian of Ukrainian pop music, author of the three-volume anthology of hits from the 60s-80s 'Golden Age of Ukrainian Pop Music' Mykhailo Maslii.

Orest Slipak died a few days ago. Former Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan reported that February 19 marks nine days since his death.

«Tragically, Orest Slipak, the brother of Hero Vasyl Slipak, has died. Orest was a wonderful, deep, and valuable person. Eternal memory…», - noted Ukrainian MP Mykola Knyazhytskyi.

No information has been reported about the causes of Orest Slipak's death. According to preliminary information, he will be buried on February 28 in Lviv.

What is known about Orest Slipak?

Orest Slipak was born on August 24, on Ukraine's Independence Day. He obtained a medical education at the Ternopil Medical Institute, specializing in cardiology.

After the death of his brother, Orest Slipak dedicated himself to cultural activities, organizing events and exhibitions in honor of the Hero of Ukraine. In particular, in December 2016, he organized the Silent Memory exhibition at the Lviv Regional Philharmonic, dedicated to the life and work of Vasyl Slipak.

Moreover, Orest Slipak served as the executive director of the International Charitable Foundation 'Vasyl Slipak Fund'.

It should be noted that Vasyl Slipak was a soloist at the Paris National Opera and an active participant in the Orange Revolution. From the beginning of the revolution, he led the volunteer movement and coordinated public events in France aimed at supporting Ukraine.

Since 2015, he fought in Donbas and was killed in June 2016 by a sniper's bullet near Luhanske in Donetsk region. On February 20, 2017, the president posthumously awarded Slipak the title of Hero of Ukraine. In June 2020, a huge mural in honor of Vasyl Slipak was unveiled in Lviv.
