The White House threatened Russia if it refuses to end the war.
The White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt announced that the United States plans to impose high tariffs and additional sanctions on Russia if the country does not stop the war in Ukraine within 50 days. She made this statement during a press conference.
U.S. measures against Russia
'50 days, as the president clearly stated. If there is no ceasefire or peace agreement during this time, if Russia refuses to agree to a truce — it will face high tariffs and secondary sanctions.'Levitt emphasized. She also highlighted that sanctions will affect countries buying oil from Russia, which could significantly harm the Russian economy.
'President Donald Trump is seeking a diplomatic resolution to this war. He insists on this. The administration has spent a lot of time trying to resolve this war.' the White House spokesperson added.
It is worth mentioning that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the view that the American leader could influence Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also convinced Trump to provide arms to Ukraine.
Ukraine hopes for the support of allies in resolving the conflict with Russia, and American threats of high tariffs and sanctions are further evidence of the importance of this support.
