The EU has expressed its views on Ukraine's actions regarding NABU and SAP.
The European Commission expressed concern over the changes that have occurred in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine. Spokesman Guillaume Mercié emphasized that these institutions must maintain independence in the fight against corruption and to preserve public trust.
EU's Response to the Situation in Ukraine
'The European Union is concerned about the recent actions of Ukraine regarding its anti-corruption institutions, NABU and SAP.'— said Mercié.
He emphasized that the EU supports Ukraine financially, but this is excessive in the absence of progress in reforms, including the fight against corruption, the establishment of transparent courts, and democratic governance.
It is noted that for EU membership, Ukraine needs to have strength in combating corruption and strengthening institutional resilience. The European Union remains vigilant and ready to support the country in adhering to legal standards.
Recently, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that could undermine the independence of NABU and SAP, providing for their control by the Prosecutor General's Office. This has caused serious outrage in Ukrainian society and among the country's partners in Europe.
