The European Commission has expressed its opposition to the forcible return of Ukrainian conscripts to EU countries where they have received temporary protection.

This was reported by European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson in an interview with "Radio Liberty".

Johansson noted that such actions contradict the Temporary Protection Directive. She explained that the EU cannot apply a different approach to Ukrainian citizens based on their age, gender, or military obligation.

"This is not possible under the Temporary Protection Directive," emphasized the Commissioner.

Johansson stressed that the EU will not forcibly push Ukrainians out of its territory. The European Union is ready to support those who wish to voluntarily return to Ukraine. "We will support those who want to return to Ukraine, and we will discuss with the Ukrainian authorities and the Ukrainian government how to do this in the best possible way. We will not push anyone out of the EU," she stated.

This statement was made in the context of a discussion initiated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. He called on Western European countries to reconsider their approaches to supporting Ukrainian conscription-aged men to encourage them to return to Ukraine. This idea was supported by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.
