Homeless people stole a bank card and won 500 thousand euros in the lottery
In France, two homeless people stole a bank card and decided to buy a lottery ticket. Surprisingly, this ticket brought them a win of 500 thousand euros. The card owner offered to split this amount between them. This was reported by Le Figaro and RTL.
On February 3, a resident of Toulouse tallied up and noticed that a backpack with his wallet was missing from his car, which was parked in the city center.
The man decided to block his credit card and called the bank. He learned that the thieves had already spent 52.50 euros in a nearby store.
The Toulouse resident went to this store, hoping that the thieves might have left some of his belongings there. The store clerk told the man that two homeless men had used his card to buy cigarettes and a few lottery tickets. One of those tickets turned out to be a winner and brought them 500 thousand euros.
The thieves informed the seller about their win and stated their intention to go to the office of Française des Jeux (FDJ), the national lottery operator, to collect their money.
After talking to the clerk, the Toulouse resident called the police, who contacted FDJ. The thieves are given 30 days to claim their winnings. However, they will likely be arrested if they come to cash in their money, the victim explained.
Jean-David E., who feels sorry to leave 500 thousand euros with FDJ, offers the thieves to split the money in half. His lawyer, Pierre Debusson, stated that 250 thousand euros is a great opportunity for a fresh start. The man, who is already 40 years old, plans to spend the money on repaying his 25-year mortgage. Currently, there are no messages from the thieves.
Earlier, a woman from America won a million dollars while buying ice cream. Now, by sharing the winnings with the thieves, the resident of France hopes for new prospects and the realization of his dreams.
