Kyiv Residents Must Be Allowed Into Shelters Before Air Raid Sirens Sound: What to Do If Denied Entry.
Public Safety in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: In Kyiv, residents must be granted access to bomb shelters even before an air raid alert is officially declared, according to Kyrylo Fesyk, head of the Obolon District State Administration. This directive aims to protect civilians amid the ongoing threat of aerial attacks.
Tragedy in the Darnytskyi District
On May 24, a Russian missile struck a dormitory in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi District, resulting in a devastating loss of life. The attack killed three people and left more than 90 others injured. That same day, emergency crews in the Shevchenkivskyi District finished dismantling unstable structures at the 'Kvadrat' shopping mall, which had also been damaged in previous strikes.
Fesyk stressed the critical need for public safety, stating: 'If you have any complaints about being denied early access to a shelter, call 102 or contact the administration. This should never happen.' - Kyrylo Fesyk
This policy represents a vital step in addressing the heightened risks from aerial assaults, which have become a grim reality of daily life in Ukraine. Ensuring unrestricted access to shelters can significantly reduce the danger to people’s lives and health during emergencies.
Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any instances where shelter access is blocked—a sign of their commitment to crisis response and improving security during wartime.
