Kyiv’s Land Commission Paralyzed: Is There a Link to the 'Clean City' Case?.
Land Commission Crisis in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv’s land commission has ceased operations, creating serious setbacks for the city. This was announced by Kyrylo Fesyk, head of the Obolon District State Administration. He emphasized that the commission’s inactivity is complicating procedures related to land allocation for various needs.
The commission has been nonfunctional since the start of the 'Clean City' operation, sparking frustration among local officials. Fesyk highlighted the issue, stating:
“The land commission is still not working.”This paralysis hinders even basic tasks, such as approving land for school construction. Fesyk remarked:
“It’s reached an absurd point—I can’t even move forward with land for a school.”
Corruption Scandals and Their Fallout
Mykhailo Terentiev, head of the Kyiv City Council’s land commission, has become a central figure in the 'Clean City' case, which involves a large-scale land corruption scheme. The individuals implicated in this case include:
- Denys Komarnytskyi
- Volodymyr Bondarenko
- Petro Olenych
Mayor Vitali Klitschko has proposed Terentiev’s dismissal, but efforts to restructure the land commission remain blocked. This situation demands urgent resolution, as it affects the city’s development and the implementation of crucial social projects.
The land commission’s paralysis in Kyiv, set against a backdrop of corruption scandals, threatens not only infrastructure development but also social initiatives like school construction and other public facilities. With no solution in sight, delays in key projects could impact the quality of life for the capital’s residents. Government decisions on reforming the commission may be pivotal in overcoming the crisis in Kyiv’s land management.
