Celebrating the 34th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence in Kyiv

According to FREEДOM: Today, August 24, Ukraine is celebrating the 34th anniversary of Independence. This is a holiday when every Ukrainian understands the importance of freedom and independence for their country. More information about how Kyiv is celebrating this day will be shared by FREEДOM correspondent Yulia Granovska.

Today, a festive atmosphere prevails in Kyiv, but every resident of the capital remembers and appreciates those who stood up for peace in the city. For 11 years, Russia has been trying to take away our rights and independence, but the Ukrainian spirit remains unbroken, and Kyiv remains unattainable for aggressors.

'For me, Independence Day is an opportunity to choose, the opportunity to do without coercion what I consider necessary, what is best for me and my family,' shared a resident of Kyiv.

Another resident believes that Independence Day is about uniting Ukrainians and celebrating a national holiday.

'For me, it is independence in decision-making, in expressing my will, and generally in life,' noted a resident of the capital.

Looking at the surrounding life, seeing thousands of flags in Maidan, it may seem that independence does not exist, but it is important to remember: 'Independence is in me, independence is in you,' emphasizes a local resident.

'It must be understood that in this way, we are shaping the national independence. We firmly believe that the Ukrainian is the psyche that has strengthened itself for centuries to the point that independence in these difficult conditions is in me, in you, in our nation,' he stressed.

In Kyiv, mass events have been canceled for security reasons, but some dedicated to Independence Day, including the annual embroidery run, took place.

Today, high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister of Canada, visited the capital. This is his first visit to Ukraine in his new position and on such an important day for us. Other notable guests are also expected.

Let us remind you that Ukraine is receiving congratulations on Independence Day from world leaders. President Volodymyr Zelensky published a letter from the head of the White House, Donald Trump, on social media.

Overall, the Independence Day celebration is held solemnly and with great patriotism both in the capital and throughout Ukraine.
