Foreigners in the army: the possibility of obtaining combatant status
The Ministry of Defense has informed that foreigners and stateless persons serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine can obtain the status of a combat participant. This status is provided for by the law on the status of war veterans and their social protection.
The law recognizes as combatants military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who participated in activities for the defense and protection of Ukraine from Russian aggression. This category also includes foreigners who are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
'Considering the above, foreigners whose activities meet the requirements of these laws can obtain the combat participant status. They must follow the same procedures as citizens of Ukraine,' explained Colonel Serhiy Halimskyi, Director of the Social Protection Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Thus, the law allows foreigners serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to obtain the status of combat participants provided that they comply with legal requirements.
