The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges citizens to leave Iran immediately: what is happening

According to ТСН: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on its citizens to leave the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran due to a sharp deterioration in the security situation in the country.

The ministry's message states:

"Due to the worsening security situation in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine recommends that citizens of Ukraine leave the territory of Iran".

Currently, it is possible to leave Iran through several routes: the Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, as well as through land border crossing points with Armenia (Norduz/Agarak) and Turkey (Bazorgan/Serou).

Ukrainian citizens are advised to follow the instructions of local authorities, avoid conflicts with law enforcement officers, and remain calm.

The Situation in Iran

Protests in Iran began in late December due to an economic crisis and a collapse of the national currency. According to human rights defenders, protest actions have spread to more than 270 settlements in 27 out of 31 provinces of Iran. At least 36 people have died in clashes between security forces and protesters, and the number of arrests has exceeded 1,200.

One of the epicenters of the protests has been the Grand Bazaar in Tehran. Witnesses report that security forces used tear gas to disperse demonstrators as merchants mass-closed their shops.

The economic situation in the country continues to deteriorate: the Iranian rial has fallen to a record level — over 1.46 million for $1. The central bank has reduced the subsidized exchange rate for importers, which has already led to a significant increase in prices for basic goods such as oil, chicken, and dairy products.

All of this underscores the instability in Iran, where protest sentiments are gaining momentum, and the population is suffering from financial difficulties. The call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has been recorded in the context of the exacerbation of social and economic problems in the country, which poses a threat to the safety of foreign citizens.

In conditions where the situation remains tense, it is important for Ukrainians in Iran to follow the recommendations of their representatives and keep up with the news to stay safe.
