Sharp Rise in Fuel Costs Across Germany

According to Novyny.live: On March 22, 2023, Germany saw a significant jump in fuel prices. A liter of premium petrol, labeled Ultimate 102, climbed to €2.90—equivalent to 146.16 Ukrainian hryvnias. Other fuel types also edged higher:

  • Super petrol now stands at €2.65 per liter;
  • Super E10 is priced at €2.59 per liter;
  • Diesel costs €2.35 per liter.

Ukraine Also Experiences Fuel Price Hikes

On the same day, Ukraine faced its own fuel price increases. Diesel rose by 2 hryvnias per liter, bringing the average to 81.20 hryvnias per liter. At Ukrainian filling stations, A-95+ petrol costs roughly 74.65 hryvnias per liter. In response to these climbing costs, Ukraine launched a 'Fuel Cashback' program, allowing drivers to save between 2 and 11 hryvnias per liter, with a monthly cap of 1,000 hryvnias per person. Despite this, the Ukrainian government has no plans to reduce value-added tax (VAT) or excise duties on fuel.

Rising fuel prices in both Germany and Ukraine are causing concern among consumers in each country.

This upward trend in fuel costs may reflect broader shifts in the energy market that are impacting household expenses. While Ukraine's 'Fuel Cashback' initiative could help ease some financial pressure on drivers, persistent price increases might push the government to reconsider its fuel taxation policies. The issue remains pressing, as higher fuel prices could feed into inflation and affect the overall economic health of both nations.
