Fuel Shortage Forces Sevastopol to Slash Public Transit Routes as Prices Double.
Public Transport Crisis in Sevastopol
According to Novyny.live: In the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol, public transport services have been drastically reduced due to power outages and a severe fuel shortage. Transport companies are receiving only 25% of their required fuel volume, leading to canceled bus routes and significantly longer wait times between services.
The cuts are driven not only by electricity blackouts but also by a catastrophic lack of fuel. The cost per liter has surged from 76 rubles to 145 rubles—far exceeding the budget assumptions written into existing contracts. Viktor Rykov explained:
“When we calculated the compensation under the contract, we assumed 76 rubles per liter of fuel. Yesterday, we bought it for 145 rubles per liter.” - Viktor Rykov
This price spike makes it nearly impossible for transit operators to secure the resources they need to maintain normal service.
Transport Situation Reaches Critical Point
The situation is now critical: trolleybuses run only sporadically, many buses have been canceled, and intervals on remaining routes have grown dramatically. Fuel supplies are delivered exclusively by land routes, which are under constant pressure from opposing forces. Viktor Rykov also noted:
“Purchasing fuel for Crimea has turned into a lottery with an unpredictable outcome.” - Viktor Rykov
In response to these challenges, a state of emergency has been declared across Crimea. Ukrainian Armed Forces have reportedly struck logistics hubs and other Russian military assets in the region. As part of evacuation efforts, the children's center 'Artek' has also been evacuated. The situation remains tense, and the trajectory of events in the area is highly uncertain.
The reduction in Sevastopol's public transit routes highlights the worsening conditions in the region, driven by ongoing military operations and logistical breakdowns. The declaration of a state of emergency across Crimea underscores the severity of the challenges residents face, particularly in meeting basic needs. Future developments could significantly reshape the socio-economic landscape of the region and alter the course of the broader conflict.
