Statements of the Slovak Defense Minister

According to ТСН: Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák commented on the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO, stating that it will never become a member of the Alliance. He also doubts the prospects for Ukraine's European integration.

This information was provided by him in an interview with the Slovak Republic's news agency TASR.

Criticism of the Coalition of Willing

The politician expressed his grievances regarding the Coalition of Willing, noting that it has not achieved significant results.

«Did it send any soldiers? No, it did not. Of course not,» Kaliňák stated.

Doubts about a European Army

Kaliňák also expressed skepticism about the idea of creating a common European army, considering it part of the federalization of the European Union.

«Either we are in NATO, and then we do not need such an army, or we are in Europe,» he noted.

Position on Defense

According to the minister, the European Union should not interfere in matters of collective defense, believing that it should be led by the North Atlantic Alliance. In his opinion, two commands cannot ensure security.

Possibility of Ending the War

Kaliňák also expressed the opinion that Ukraine could have ended the war as early as 2022.

Slovak Prime Minister on Ukraine

Let us remind you that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, whose party includes Kaliňák, has previously also spoken critically about Ukraine's EU membership. He believes that Kyiv will not be able to become a member of the EU by January 1, 2027, and called Ukraine a “black hole through which billions of euros disappear.”

Comments from Slovak officials indicate little support for Ukraine in its aspirations for European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In the context of war and political challenges, this issue remains extremely relevant for all countries in the region. The expressed views of the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister may influence the relations between Slovakia and Ukraine, as well as the overall atmosphere in Europe regarding aid to Ukraine. The developments in this context should be closely monitored.
