Construction of the first nuclear power plant with a microreactor has begun in the USA.
The US Department of Defense has begun construction of the country's first nuclear power plant with a Generation IV microreactor. This was reported by «Energoatom».
«The goal of the project is to create a nuclear microreactor to provide stable power for military needs. The reactor is designed in such a way that it can be operated within three days after delivery and dismantled within seven days afterwards», the report says.
It is noted that the developer has created a high-temperature gas-cooled installation that operates on tri-structural isotropic (Triso) low-enriched uranium (Haleu) with a high content of isotopes:
«It can be transported in regular shipping containers and will have an installed capacity of 1-5 MW».
Recall that on August 27, it became known that «Energoatom» took a new step towards the implementation of the project for the construction of the Chyhyryn NPP. Ukraine's strategy for the period until 2050 provides for an increase in the capacity of domestic nuclear generation. «Energoatom» is working on the search for new sites for the construction of facilities.
