Assault on Sumy Region

According to Novyny.live: On the morning of the attack, Russian forces struck the Sumy region, damaging the railway station infrastructure in the city of Sumy. A Russian 'Shahed' drone was shot down directly above the station building. Fragments from the unmanned aerial vehicle then fell onto passenger train No. 143, which operates on the Sumy–Rakhiv route. This caused the roof of the last carriage to catch fire. Fortunately, all passengers and the train crew had taken shelter, resulting in no injuries.

The passenger train was delayed by roughly five hours due to the shelling. This incident is not an isolated one in the Sumy region:

  • During the night of June 10, the area experienced massive Russian shelling that killed two people and wounded one other.
  • On June 8, a Russian drone struck a five-story residential building in Konotop, Sumy region. Rescue teams pulled three people from the rubble, but one woman died.

These events underscore the ongoing threat that the aggressor poses to civilians and critical infrastructure in the region.

Escalation of Violence

This latest episode fits into a broader pattern of escalating violence across Ukraine, particularly in the Sumy region, where Russian attacks continue to jeopardize the safety of peaceful residents and essential facilities. Frequent shelling and drone strikes raise serious concerns about further civilian casualties and highlight the urgent need for stronger protective measures by Ukrainian forces and local authorities.
