Trump reacts to Putin's refusal to make concessions.
U.S. President Donald Trump may impose new sanctions against Russia if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not agree to negotiations.
According to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, it is time to end the war between Russia and Ukraine 'fairly and honestly, as President Trump is trying to do.'
Graham commented on Putin's statement that Russia will not retreat from its conquests in the war and that it should 'choose the option of peace that suits us.' He stated that Putin 'publicly brazenly and stubbornly' rejects Trump's proposals.
'If Putin does not agree to serious negotiations, I hope and expect that Trump will impose more sanctions on Russia's banking and energy sectors, and if necessary, apply large tariffs. This impact on Russia's already weak economy will force it to sit at the negotiating table,' said the Republican senator.
Moreover, Graham noted that Ukraine has made important statements about a ceasefire, an agreement on mineral extraction, and readiness for peace negotiations over the last 48 hours.
Remember, Trump insists on the quick lifting of energy sanctions against Russia.
