The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Kursk region of the Russian Federation

The Russians were gathering forces and planning to start new hostilities in the Sumy direction, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine preemptively struck and attacked the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. This opinion was expressed in a commentary to 'Glavkom' by retired Lieutenant General, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Ihor Romanenko.

We remember the Russian plans to start new hostilities, in particular, the plan published by the GUR, regarding the initiation of such actions in the Kharkiv and Sumy directions. There were corresponding analyses of the accumulation of Russian forces around, intensification of actions around Sumy. I mean the use of guided aerial bombs, increased artillery, pulling up reserves, and then one should expect the start of ground hostilities," noted the retired Lieutenant General.

Ihor Romanenko noted that Ukraine had a choice: "either wait for the enemy to attack or act preemptively and impose its own rules of the game".

Preventive actions are always more effective - it's better to impose your initiative and achieve goals," emphasized the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff.

The retired Lieutenant General recalled the experience of raids on the territory of the Russian Federation, which at that moment improved the situation at the front. He also noted that psychological pressure is important in war: "If the Russians hit every day, our citizens are worried. And now the Russians are in this state."

Having previous experience of raids (on the territory of the Russian Federation), we saw that the Russians were forced to transfer their troops, in particular from the Kharkiv direction, because there were not enough forces on the spot. This undoubtedly improved the situation at the front at that Time. Further - our forces have the task of destroying weapons, equipment, personnel. And psychological pressure is also important," the statement said.

Ihor Romanenko emphasized that in order to predict the duration of the operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, several factors are needed:

To answer the question of how long such an operation can last, it is necessary to be able to assess what specific forces are participating from our and Russian sides. And also how capable they are of supporting their forces with resources and reserves.

Recall, since yesterday, Russian publics have been reporting rather rapid advancements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. The Ukrainian side remains silent. Meanwhile, Russian media report that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have taken several settlements in the Sudzhan district of the Kursk region.

Earlier it was reported that Russian media and the government of the aggressor country cannot agree on what is actually happening in the Kursk region. Local publics write that communication has disappeared in the settlements of the Kursk region, the governor urges to remain calm, and local residents are asking for evacuation.

For reference, Russian propagandists admit that the situation in the Kursk region is quite tense, Ukrainian forces are indeed actively advancing and conducting a military operation on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country also admits that battles are ongoing in the Kursk region with units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

There is also unofficial information that the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
