Hungary will impose sanctions on three Ukrainian military personnel in connection with the death of an ethnic Hungarian in Transcarpathia.
Hungary has banned two colonels and a general from entering the country. This occurred after ethnic Hungarian Jozsef Sebeshtyen died in Transcarpathia allegedly due to mobilization.
The following individuals are under restrictions:
- Vitaliy Tkachenko (Personnel Management of the Ground Forces of Ukraine);
- Volodymyr Shvediuk (Operational Command 'West');
- Roman Yuzvenko (Mobilization Department of the Ministry of Defense).
Peter Szijjarto also threatened 'consequences' and reminded that Hungary is the 'largest supplier of electricity' to Ukraine.
What happened
45-year-old Jozsef Sebeshtyen died after being beaten at the TCK in Transcarpathia. The Ground Forces of Ukraine clarified that he was actually a Ukrainian citizen and had been mobilized on June 14, but later deserted and died from a pulmonary embolism.
The Ukrainian ambassador was summoned due to this incident, with confirmation coming from Levente Mádjár.
After the death of the ethnic Hungarian in Transcarpathia, the Hungarian side imposed sanctions on three Ukrainian military personnel. This has led to tensions in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, which may have further consequences for both countries.Read also
