Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Russia of destroying a UNESCO World Heritage site, stating that

“we are now dealing with Russian terrorists who have already surpassed ISIS in their crimes against cultural heritage”

Particularly notable is the damage to the Tower of John Kushnik, a unique 17th–18th century structure that suffered significant destruction during a second strike. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that

“the damaged Lavra building will be mothballed”
