Ukraine may join the European roaming system starting from 2026.
The European Commission proposes to integrate Ukraine into the European roaming system starting January 2026. This will mean that Ukrainians and European citizens will be able to use mobile communication on the territory of Ukraine and EU countries without incurring additional roaming charges.
According to the European Commission, Ukrainian subscribers will be able to make calls, send messages, and use mobile internet from their Ukrainian numbers in all 27 EU countries at domestic rates. Citizens of the European Union, while on the territory of Ukraine, will also be able to take advantage of the same opportunities.
This initiative is the first sector of the Ukrainian economy to which the rules of the EU Single Market will apply. This indicates real integration of Ukraine into the European telecommunications sphere even before the country's full membership in the European Union. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved a law that leads to the convergence of Ukraine and the EU in the field of roaming, creating a legal framework for future integration.
As a result of the European Commission's proposal, Ukraine may perceive this step as an important milestone in the development of cooperation with the European Union, which will enhance international relations and the exchange of services for citizens on both sides.Read also
