Ukrainian Defense Industry Does Not Produce Anti-Personnel Mines: What Is the Reason and What Are the Consequences

The domestic military-industrial complex still cannot produce sufficient quantities of anti-personnel mines due to the complexity of certification and procedures from the Ministry of Defense. This information was revealed by military personnel and journalist Ihor Lutsenko on the air of 'Vechir.LIVE'.

Anti-Personnel Mines: What Threatens

According to Lutsenko, Ukrainian manufacturers cannot bring mines to the market due to convoluted and unclear requirements. This may lead to Ukraine having to purchase mines from abroad, which would only benefit certain officials.

'Soon, perhaps, we will have to officially start acknowledging that we lack anti-personnel mines and that we need to buy them. Who benefits from this are those officials who control the situation with procurement and certification at the Ministry of Defense.'
, Lutsenko emphasized.

The military noted that currently contradictory requirements are imposed on manufacturers, which may be corrupt in nature. This situation requires urgent measures to eliminate artificial barriers in the production of mines.

Ukraine has previously discussed the possibility of exporting its weapons, which would become an additional source of income for the country. This opinion was expressed by MP Bohdan Kytak. Also, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk called for expectations of new developments in Ukrainian weapons this fall.

According to reports, the shortage of anti-personnel mines in Ukraine may lead to the necessity of purchasing these means from abroad. Such a situation raises corruption risks and puts additional pressure on the Ukrainian military complex, which needs to resolve certification and compliance issues to enter the international market. At the same time, politicians discuss the possibility of exporting Ukrainian weapons as a way to increase state revenues. Hopes for rapid improvements and innovations in the Ukrainian defense sector also remain relevant.
