Ukraine was the first in Europe to adopt a national standard for eco-industrial parks.
Ukraine has established a new national standard for eco-industrial parks, becoming the first country in Europe and the second in the world to do so. According to Deputy Minister of Economy Vitaliy Kindratiy, this step will promote the development of the processing industry in Ukraine and make the country's industrial parks more attractive to foreign investors.
'The status of an eco-industrial park will now indicate compliance of Ukrainian standards with European norms, as well as the quality of the products manufactured here,' emphasized Vitaliy Kindratiy.
The new standard provides for a system for evaluating the managing companies of eco-industrial parks at three levels of compliance - 'gold', 'silver', and 'bronze', which assess management efficiency, process sustainability, and environmental impact.
The document was developed as part of the international project of the Global program for eco-industrial parks in Ukraine with the participation of UNIDO and financial support from Switzerland through SECO. The next step will be the adoption of bill No. 12117, which will facilitate the strategic transformation of the Ukrainian economy and increase the competitiveness of the country's industry.
