The 'I Want to Find' Initiative

As of June 1, 2023, the 'I Want to Find' project had received 200,000 search requests. Iryna Krynyna, a representative of the initiative, stated:

“Today, 51% of those in the exchange are men who signed contracts from places of detention or are under investigation.” – Iryna Krynyna

She added: “If they ended up at the front and admitted their mistake, that they no longer want to fight, then that is, of course, the 'I Want to Live' project.” These remarks underscore the project's importance in the context of exchanges and efforts to preserve human life.

Krynyna concluded her comments with an appeal: “Save your own life.” This prisoner swap highlights the complexity of the situation and the critical humanitarian dimensions of the conflict.

Prisoner exchanges are a vital element of humanitarian policy amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. They demonstrate both sides' attempts to resolve the fate of prisoners of war and bring people home. Moreover, such swaps can affect the morale of service members and their families, emphasizing the human cost of war.
