Concerns Emerge Over the Timeline for Negotiation Cluster Launches

According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian lawmaker Yuliia Sirko has voiced worries about the schedule for opening the negotiation clusters required for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. According to her, the first cluster is set to open on June 16, but the remaining clusters could be postponed until July. Sirko believes diplomats will continue pushing to have all clusters opened by the end of June.

'We are not entirely satisfied with the timeline,' said Yuliia Sirko, stressing the importance of meeting the planned deadlines.

She also noted that 'these clusters should have been opened in 2025.' Despite the delays, Sirko acknowledged that 'the situation has certainly improved' and expressed hope that the issue of opening the clusters would be resolved. 'If not, then we’ll just have to wait until July,' she added.

Discussions on Ukraine’s EU Integration Continue

Talks on Ukraine’s integration into the EU have been ongoing since June 2. Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has stated his readiness to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but added, 'I will agree to open the negotiation clusters only if Kyiv guarantees compliance with the requirements.'

It is also worth noting that recent polls show 70% of Ukrainians do not believe their country will join the EU within the next five years. This statistic highlights the significant challenges facing Ukraine on its path to European integration.

The stance of Yuliia Sirko and the reaction from Hungary’s prime minister underscore the complexity and multifaceted nature of Ukraine’s EU accession process. Delays in the cluster opening schedule could erode public trust in this process, especially at a time when a majority of Ukrainians remain skeptical about the country’s ability to join the EU in the near future. Success in negotiations and meeting the conditions set by Hungary will be a crucial step for Ukraine’s continued progress on its European path.
