Ukraine produces tens of thousands of drones monthly at a fraction of the cost of Western models.
Ukraine’s Expanding Drone and Missile Manufacturing
According to UATV: Ukraine is rapidly scaling up its production of unmanned aerial vehicles and advancing its missile program, positioning itself as a competitive player on the global stage. A major advantage of domestic manufacturing is the ability to produce in large volumes while keeping costs low. Aviation expert Bohdan Dolynets reports that Ukraine now manufactures tens of thousands of drones each month, highlighting the country’s strong industrial capacity in drone technology.
Ukrainian drones are priced at just a few thousand dollars per unit—far cheaper than their Western counterparts, which typically cost between $10,000 and $20,000 or more each.
“Intercept drones, for example, cost $10,000–$20,000 and more per unit” — Bohdan Dolynets. This cost advantage makes Ukrainian drones highly competitive internationally, opening up new export opportunities.
Ballistic Missiles and Their Potential
Beyond drones, Ukraine is also developing ballistic missiles with a range of up to 800 km.
“The production cost of 10 Ukrainian missiles equals that of one Western-made missile” — Bohdan Dolynets. This underscores the efficiency of Ukraine’s missile program and its ability to produce advanced technology at significantly lower prices.
Overall, the growth of Ukraine’s drone and missile production not only meets the country’s needs for modern military technology but also creates pathways into global markets, establishing Ukraine as a key player in this sector.
This surge in drone and missile output reflects both technological progress and Ukraine’s strategic goal of strengthening its defense capabilities and global standing. Amid ongoing global challenges and conflicts, the ability to produce cutting-edge technology domestically has become crucial for national security. It also opens doors for collaboration with other nations interested in Ukrainian innovations.
