According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, Oleksiy Sobolev, has announced the rollout of a national fuel cashback program designed to bolster both the economy and consumers. The draft law, debated during a parliamentary plenary session on March 27, aims to bring stability to petroleum product prices across the country. This initiative comes as Ukraine continues to navigate economic pressures amid the ongoing war.

Benefits of the Cashback Scheme

The cashback program distributes roughly 20 million hryvnias each day, with 75% of those funds allocated to covering utility bills. According to Sobolev, this approach simultaneously supports individual consumers and stimulates broader economic activity.

“Cashback funds can be spent on Ukrainian-made goods, books, medicines, utility payments, or donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” — Oleksiy Sobolev.

Sobolev also warned that abrupt policy changes in the fuel market could lead to negative consequences. Ukraine currently imports fuel from more than ten different countries, and the proposed legislation in the Verkhovna Rada seeks to reduce VAT and excise duties on petroleum products. The minister stated that these steps could significantly enhance market stability and improve consumers’ financial well-being.

The introduction of a national fuel cashback program marks a critical effort to support Ukraine’s economy as it confronts numerous challenges. Lowering taxes on petroleum products may help bring down fuel prices, which in turn would positively affect household and business expenses.
