Ukraine has lost over 40% of territory in the Kursk region
Ukraine has lost over 40% of the territory in the Kursk region that it controlled during a sudden operation launched in August. This occurred against the backdrop of waves of counterattacks organized by the Russian troops.
“At best, we controlled about 1376 square kilometers. Now this territory is smaller. The enemy is intensifying its counterattacks,” - a source in the Ukrainian General Staff reported to the publication.
According to a representative of the Ukrainian General Staff, the Armed Forces of Ukraine currently hold about 800 square kilometers of Russian territory. This part of the Kursk region will be held by the Ukrainian military as long as it is justified from a military point of view.
The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region is aimed at stopping the advance of Russian troops in the east and northeast of Ukraine, as well as gaining additional leverage for Kiev in peace negotiations.
