State Assistance for Funeral Costs of Retirees in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, families of deceased retirees can receive government compensation to cover funeral expenses. The amount they get depends on the pension the deceased person was receiving. In certain cases, this financial aid can surpass 16,000 hryvnias, providing crucial support during a difficult time.

Payment Amounts

For civilian retirees, the burial benefit equals two months of the deceased’s pension. For military retirees, the payout is three months of their pension, but not less than five times the subsistence minimum. The current guaranteed minimum payment stands at 16,640 hryvnias.

The benefit is not granted if the retiree was fully supported by the state or if the funeral was paid for by public funds. To apply, relatives must submit a set of documents, including:

  • Passport;
  • Tax identification number;
  • Application for the benefit;
  • Death certificate;
  • Extract from the State Register of Civil Status Acts or a death notification;
  • Bank account details.

If the pensioner passed away abroad, a legalized death certificate or another official document is required. Importantly, the law does not set a deadline for applying for this funeral assistance. Applications must be submitted in person at any branch of the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

Given these conditions, families of deceased retirees can access state financial support during a challenging period. This program serves as a vital resource for households facing burial costs, especially amid economic uncertainty. It is essential for relatives to be aware of their rights and the application process, ensuring they can obtain this help when grieving the loss of a loved one.
