Ukrainians are massively changing mobile operators: the antileader named.
The number of Ukrainians who decided to change their mobile operator while keeping their number has increased two and a half times in 2024 compared to 2023. This was reported by the National Commission responsible for state regulation of electronic communications, radio frequency spectrum, and postal service (NKEK).
The number of mobile numbers that were transferred using the MNP service (mobile number portability), which allows users to switch to another operator while keeping their number, increased last year to 340.63 thousand.
The most numbers were transferred from 'Kyivstar', which accounted for 60% (207.1 thousand) of the transfers, followed by Vodafone with 32% (109.53 thousand), and lifecell with 6.7% (22.88 thousand), which is part of the DVL group.
On the other hand, the most numbers from other operators were transferred to lifecell - 79% (269.76 thousand), Vodafone - 15.88% (54.11 thousand), and to 'Kyivstar' - 4.7% (16.16 thousand).
It was previously reported that over five years of MNP operation (from May 1, 2019, to May 1, 2024), 468.17 thousand numbers were transferred. By the end of 2024, this figure is expected to increase to 517 thousand.
The National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Telecommunications Networks has also updated the requirements for the operation of mobile operators' base stations during wartime.
It was previously reported that mobile communications in Ukraine would operate for three days during a blackout. However, the operators 'Kyivstar', Vodafone, and lifecell stated that ensuring 100% autonomy of mobile communication and the internet for ten hours during a blackout would be difficult.
During power outages, the load on mobile operators' networks sharply increases due to a mass shift to mobile internet, leading to communication problems.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation is also working to stabilize mobile communication during power outages.
Let us note that European partners will allocate $435 million for improving communication and restoring telecommunications in Ukraine.
