Free MRIs and Lab Tests for Ukrainians: Who Qualifies for These Benefits.
Access to No-Cost Medical Care in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Under the Medical Guarantees Program, Ukrainian citizens can receive free medical services during inpatient treatment. Since the start of the year, more than 1.48 million patients have already taken advantage of these benefits, highlighting the growing reliance on state-funded healthcare.
These complimentary services are available at 804 medical facilities nationwide. The National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) has allocated over 12.8 billion hryvnias to cover the cost of this benefits package. This significant investment underscores the program's role in expanding healthcare access across the population.
What Medical Services Are Covered
Among the free services offered to patients are:
- a range of lab tests, including complete blood counts, blood chemistry panels, urinalysis, and blood type determination;
- screening for glucose, cholesterol, and HIV;
- complimentary diagnostic imaging such as electrocardiography, ultrasound, endoscopic procedures, X-rays, CT scans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Patient rights during hospital stays also include:
- round-the-clock monitoring by medical staff;
- provision of essential medications;
- consultations with specialists;
- pain management, oxygen therapy, intensive care, rehabilitation services, and meals.
These provisions are designed to raise the standard of medical care in Ukraine and offer proper support to those in need of treatment.
The rollout of the Medical Guarantees Program represents a major milestone in Ukraine's healthcare reform, with the goal of making medical services accessible to all citizens. The rising number of patients using these free services reflects the program’s positive impact and growing public trust in state-run medicine. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving both the quality and funding of healthcare, a critical factor in the country’s overall health landscape.
